Talking about her journey, Sudha says, “My dad was working with Duraiswamy whose daughter Sudha Duraiswamy was a famous Bharatanatyam dancer. That’s when he had decided that if he ever has a girl child, he will name her Sudha and make her a Bharatanatyam dancer. And well, the universe heard him. My mother also always dreamt of becoming a dancer but it wasn’t possible for her so she saw that dream in me. So, ever since I was 3, I was admitted into a dance school. And I believe, parents think the best for their children, so I never questioned their decision. After I faced the major accident, I realized the importance of dance in my life. I pushed myself and worked really hard and started dancing again in spite of the doctors saying it won’t be possible. Every time I would give up, I would think of my parents and would stand on my feet all over again. I really don’t think this would have been possible if it weren’t for my parents.”
When asked what dance means to her, she says, “Dance is a celebration of life. When I dance, I create a bubble with no one around me. It is just my dance and me. I think it is a very special time I spend with myself. And once I enter the bubble, I attain maximum happiness and pleasure and it feels like I am connecting to some unknown power that transports me to a world where I cherish every moment.”
Sudha Chandran is hands down an inspiration for all of us!
